Meda Lestrange
NAME: Meda Cassiopeia Lestrange
ALSO KNOWN AS: Meda, MeMe
DATE OF BIRTH: August 14, 2005
BLOODLINE: Pureblood
HOUSE: Gryffindor
AFFILIATION: With her family - while she was raised with some pureblood prejudices (which were more family prejudices than blood ones) she also has no strong opinion on Muggles, Muggleborns and halfbloods, so really has no desire to choose sides in a war long gone
MARITAL STATUS: Single
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Heterosexual

Name
MEDA: meaning “prophetess”
Expression Number 5: People with this name are excited by change, adventure, and excitement. They are dynamic, visionary and versatile, able to make constructive use of freedom. They fight being restricted by rules and conventions. They tend to be optimistic, energetic, intelligent, and to make friends easily. They may be changeable, restless, untidy, and rebellious.
CASSIOPEIA: queen of Aethiopia in Greek mythology; a northern constellation which Greek Mythology considered to represent a vain queen who boasted about her unrivaled beauty

Magic
WAND: 7”, cedar, tailhair of one of the Lestrange's prized Aethonans
CEDAR TREE (the Confidence) - of rare beauty, knows how to adapt, likes luxury, of good health, not in the least shy, tends to look down on others, self-confident, determined, impatient, likes to impress others, many talents, industrious, healthy optimism, waiting for the one true love, able to make quick decisions.
PATRONUS: Horse
BOGGART: Azkaban
STRENGTHS: Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, flying
WEAKNESSES: Charms
CREATURES: Female Crup named Elladora

Outward
HEIGHT: 1.67 m [5'6”]
WEIGHT: 49.8 kg [110 lbs]
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Two piercings in each ear
APPEARANCE: With blonde hair a few shades darker than her mother's golden and blue eyes that really sometimes seem to be charmed so – except if one knows Meda at all and is aware that would be a difficult task for her – Meda does resemble the Rosier family as far as the colouring that Narcissa herself has, but as Meda grew, baby chub failed to recede entirely, leaving her with softer, more rounded features reminiscent of her paternal or maternal grandmothers instead of the sharper, more aristocratic features of the Black family. Her hair is worn at somewhere past her shoulders and she often twists it up into two knots at the top of either side of her head because she get annoyed when it gets into her face. Her skin tone is slightly darker, however, as she tans as easy as her father, to the point she sported distinct tan lines in the summer months from being outdoors constantly. As she has been active since a child, her body type is very athletic under that deceptive 'softness'. Uncomfortably for Meda, she developed quite a bit during the summer before her fifth year and now spends her time alternately hunching a bit to conceal her chest or standing straight with a smug little look when she notices the eyes of boys on her. The two piercings she has in each ear host a variety of earrings, but typically she keeps small silver studs in the upper holes and small silver hoops in the lower ones. As far as clothing, Meda isn't picky about her attire and can be seen in robes, modern athletic attire or casual clothing and even, surprisingly, dressier items as she isn't specifically a tomboy.
HABITS:

Inward
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Slightly arrogant, energetic, funny
PERSONALITY: Meda is quick to laugh and smile, brought up in a loving home that was far more open than the one her half-brother was raised in, because her father is a very different individual in personality. Having parents who had lived through two wars and a lifetime of families doing the less than best thing for each other, it was clear Rabastan and Narcissa were determined to do things as right as they could. The loving persistence still inevitably resulted in spoiling, as the children were always told they were the best and brightest form excellent families, but as they were raising more open, loving children, there was a counter to that assertion of superiority.

Unsurprisingly, Meda has inherited the infamous Black temper. However, rather than her temper manifest in heated verbal displays and the occasional broken knick knack like her mother, she seems to have inherited a slight bent for personal harm that several other relatives have exhibited over their own lifetimes. She has never truly harmed herself irreparably, but her fist has broken more than one pane of glass in her young life.

She is has quite the sense of oddball humor, an impish sort of childishness she has not grown out of and is quite confident for the most part. She only suffers insecurity now and again when it comes to her family. She know she has to sometimes frustrate her parents with her too-free nature and that worries her, but she is also completely certain she has never openly disappointed them. Meda is terribly protective of her family and very defensive; added to her temper, this is often a problem. One of her biggest buttons is that her dad used to be a Death Eater but as she thinks he is the single most amazing man in the world, anything said against him is likely to result in her socking that person in the nose.

A horribly messy girl, she certainly adequately represents the saying that a mess is the sign of a creative mind. Meda is incredibly imaginative, something that started at a very young age with the stories Rabastan and/or Narcissa told to her at bedtime. Thriving on stories of adventure and fantasy, even while living in the wizarding world where fantasy is reality, Meda does dream and dream big. She is also a rebel without intending to be, she simply just cannot help herself. She does not seek out to do things differently, she just does things the way she wants to do them.
STRENGTHS: General temperament – even with several personality faults such as a need to be the center of attention and a temper than could frighten the weak-hearted, Meda's general temperament is a huge positive point as she is completely friendly, very, very affectionate and pretty much entirely very likable. A loving upbringing is very responsible for that and as Meda never mastered – or rather, cared to master – the fine art of being one person in public and another in private, everyone benefits from her openly outgoing, generous nature; Loyalty/Protectiveness – without a doubt, her fierce passion for those she loves is a credit to her, even if the execution of such is often flawed. Meda is just simply possessed of such strong, passionate feelings about many that being otherwise simply does not occur to her. In Meda one will find a vocally loyal, fiercely protective friend for life and this is where her come-and-go taught prejudices come into play, as she has been known to have as many mixed blood friends and pureblood friends and not really associate a difference to any of them, even when she does take the time to notice; Creativity – if in need of an idea for a solution to a problem, especially one that might be a bit unconventional, Meda is the girl to go to. Naturally imaginative, she tends to dream very big and find a way to realize those dreams, as, after all, ego dictates she have exactly what she wants.
WEAKNESSES: Temper – her temper is very, very bad and she posses no control over it, nor does she ever really seem to want to do so. She knows she feels better once it is done and over and so the idea of controlling it just to behave like a proper 'lady' seems silly to her. Sometimes this leads to Meda being quite the 'drama queen' in some respects, which is unsurprising when knowing both her parents and extended family; Rules – restrictions of any kind just seem to rub Meda the wrong way in a very definite way. It could be blamed on an upbringing where she did get pretty much everything she wanted or just on the aspect of her personality that is responsible for her being such a free individual. Whatever the cause, Meda has blown off the rules in the past more times that she can count and while she is rather clever at avoiding getting in trouble, it makes for a difficult time for her sometimes and is definitely a trial where order and propriety are concerned; Ego – as predicted from being told you are the most wonderful child in the world along with your sibling, Meda has quite a high opinion of herself in many ways. She generally expects to be the absolute center of attention at all times, hence her interest in Quidditch and her desire to do the best at the magic she is most talented at. If the attention of others should waver in social group situations, she will try to get it back with a joke or amusing antic or anything else she can come up with as effective.
IQ: Above average
EXTROVERT/INTROVERT: Extrovert
PHOBIAS/FEARS: Azkaban – she has never been there but has seen pictures in books and her deepest fear is that the Ministry will somehow take her Rabastan back there
MENTAL HEALTH: Excellent beyond her temper fits than can get a bit extreme

Her Story
CHILDHOOD HOME: Kent
HISTORY: Meda Cassiopeia Lestrange is the happy, slightly accidental product of post-war hope in the wizarding world, the hope that not every named evil was truly so evil and some Death Eaters could find a new path in life and make up, in some small way, for what they had done. The war left the wizarding world with so much loss but out of that came many gains, including a rehabilitation centre for prisoners from the war. Many were not wholly fanatical in following Voldemort by the end of the dark wizard's existence and those individuals were sent there, following their prison sentence, to be 'rehabilitated' and become productive members of society to further atone for their past crimes. Some stayed many months and many were there for stretches as long as years.

Once such man was Rabastan Lestrange, whose crimes were many but his worst was not an action, but the lack thereof, of being there the night the Longbottoms were tortured and simply standing by. Years of imprisonment had paid for that and after a short term in Azkaban following the war's end when he voluntarily turned himself in to the Ministry in exchange for a chance at the centre, he was released into that centre as an experiment to see how reformed one of the more known criminals of the first war could be, where he remained until late in 2001. During that time, he and the now-widowed Narcissa Black Malfoy became closer than they had been as true friends in their youth. From love already shared in friendship came a reawakened attraction that had silently been between the two during their years at Hogwarts. Months after Rabastan was released, they were married quietly. Despite the fact they were older than the parents of most of the children being born in the upcoming years (but barely middle aged in the wizarding life span), it was important to Narcissa to give Rabastan an heir, which occurred in 2002/03 with the birth of Alexander Regulus Lestrange.

Born two years after her brother as a complete surprise, though by no means unwanted in any fashion, she did not stop with that as far as surprising. Meda (named simply Meda, though others speculate as to the reason for the name) was the image of her mother right out of the womb with fuzzy golden blonde hair that soon turned to curls and bright blue eyes that held that shade of baby blue past the time when most babies' eyes change color. It soon became clear, however, that she was more the child of both her parents than primarily like only one of them.

Spared much of what society still thought about her family lines because she had no need to be anywhere but with her family, Meda's childhood was idyllic. Rabastan began to slowly rebuild the Lestrange stables that had once been so carefully planned when he controlled them in his youth and Meda passionately loved every minute of that, from her very first mount, a docile old mare who barely left the ground without dedicated and lengthy coaxing, to mounts she never should have gotten on but did anyhow, outbursts of worried anger from her father no deterrent. “Xander” was often her partner in crime in her stunts, though the boy did try often to reason with his impulsive little sister. Meda, however, never let him take the fall for her actions even when he tried to do so.

Given the best of everything and raised to expect it all, Meda was quite spoiled, but her genuinely friendly, affectionate nature countered that remarkably. Even if she was working up to demanding some new trinket or amusement in grand style, her thanks for receiving it would always be loving and exuberant. Though it took her years to realize it, she really could do no wrong in her parents' eyes and even when she did realize it, she rarely took advantage of it in a calculated, determined way. Not never, but rarely.

The time after her brother was gone to Hogwarts was possibly the point she was most spoiled, as her parents missed her brother and Meda was only too happy to try and distract them from that in any way possibly so she did not see them sad. Family holidays during that time were even better, as their parents seemed completely determined to back as much fun and affection into them as possible.

Sorted into Gryffindor when she arrived at Hogwarts despite the Hat's musing about the Ravenclaw and Slytherin aspects within her, none was more shocked than Meda herself – after all, her parents had been Slytherins! Both grandfathers had been Slytherins and founding members of the organization that eventually became the Death Eaters! Her grandmothers, all of her aunts and uncles, and both brothers were Slytherin and, here she was, a Gryffindor. The only one not shocked was, of all people, Narcissa. Meda still has the owl her parents sent her, in which Narcissa explained she had always known Meda would be one, teasingly writing that with parents as hardheaded and hot-tempered as hers, how could she not be? That worry set aside, that she had disappointed her parents – which had still taken a winter holiday's worth of convincing to believe them completely – she faced only one more, that being in such an opposing house from her brother would ruin everything. It didn't and the two were just as happy as they might have been in one house, because they made the effort to make it work.

Meda's intelligence allowed her to excel in the written and verbal portions of all her classes, but when it came to the practical side, she soon realized she was absolutely abysmal at Charms, possibly even worse than Rabastan had ever been, but utterly brilliant at Transfiguration. To this day, she has no idea how that is possible but she has learned to compensate for it. The rest of her classes she did well in, some with no effort at all and some with a little extra work.

The only downside to all of it was the exposure to so many children, many who were well aware of who her parents were, especially her father. While her parents had never lied about the past, Meda had always firmly believed that her father had suffered for what he had done because of years of torment in Dementor-ridden Azkaban (the only thing that can truly frighten Meda into inconsolable fits of tears is nightmares about that) and had done what he needed to in the rehabilitation centre and since then to be a better person. It was at Hogwarts, however, that she met those that didn't and got into her first magical, and physical, fight over her father. That boy regretted saying a thing to her after that but others did not always learn from the experience. Sometimes, it did not really even take insults as much as curiosity that came off sounding wrong to set Meda off into a shouting fit, but she only ever magically or physically struck someone who outright insulted her father.

In her third year, she secured a position on the Gryffindor house team and did not stop celebrating for weeks. She loved flying, always had be it horse or broom, and had the skills necessary for several positions but Chaser was what she became on the team. For two years she remained a Chaser and loved every minute of it but when she was able to claimed the open Beater's position in her fifth year, she found her one true Quidditch love – whacking iron balls at people. While most Beater's seemed intimidating in sheer size or fierceness of expression, Meda did it all with easy, bright laughter and very little intimidation in look. Intimidating came off the field in times when her temper was roused..

Despite her one glaring academic struggle, as she still fails to understand how she could not have inherited one tiny drop of Charms talent from her mother (who Meda will tell all in earshot is the most brilliant witch in the whole wizarding world, as there never seems to be anything but extremes for Meda in her opinions of people she loves the most), she loves Hogwarts for the classes, her schoolmates (with the few exceptions of fighting) and the castle itself, which she is determined to map out entirely before she leaves. An impossible goal, but to one such as Meda who loves the challenge of adventure and exploration, she is certainly equal to the task.

The afternoon Meda was originally pulled, she had just done abysmally in Charms, which was nothing very new but upsetting just the same. Xander, knowing she was, decided to orchestrate one of her favorite games – a clue hunt – in order to cheer her up. Somewhere around the Astronomy Tower, Meda touched a wall but never noticed the change because the corridor looked pretty much the same. It is only after she stopped thinking the 'man she can't understand' and the journal he gave her were part of Xander's game that she'd believed where she truly was.

Meda's second pull, from the year 1000 in one universe to the year 1001 in another universe was far less confusing, as then she had her eclectic family around her comprising of her teenage parents, teenage aunts and teenage grandmother. As much as she knows she should not wish it, she still holds out hope others of her family will arrive, as she is not certain now she could leave behind the relationships she has formed with the younger version of individuals she knew previously only as adults or portraits or both.

REASON FOR BEING PULLED: Why she was originally pulled, beyond simply feeling down and wanting to get away from school, is relatively simple – Meda loves adventure. She has always adored stories about the past, from tales like Arthur to stories about the Founders and even Muggle adventures like the Chronicles of Narnia. She is going to absolutely love visiting the past and meeting the Founders and relatives she never had the chance to meet.

PREFECTURE/HEADSHIP: Ha! No, rules were made to be tested, not enforced, as far as Meda is concerned.
QUIDDITCH: Chaser (third/fourth year), Beater (fifth year)

Connections
FAMILY:
Grandparents: Frederick Lestrange - paternal grandfather, pureblood, Slytherin alumni, founding member of the Knights of Walpurgis, Death Eater until his death (d.1979); Cecelia Lestrange - paternal grandmother, Slytherin alumni; Cygnus Black - maternal grandfather, pureblood, Slytherin alumni, founding member of the Knights of Walpurgis, Death Eater until his death (d.1979); Druella Rosier Black - maternal grandmother, pureblood, Slytherin alumni, deceased (d.XXXX)
Parents: Rabastan Lestrange - father, Slytherin alumni, pureblood, former Death Eater, Aethonan breeder
In any language, 'daddy's girl' would fit Meda in the way most joke about being the picture under something in the dictionary. She has always thought he was utterly amazing and anything told to her in contrast to that is likely to result in consequences the other person probably did not want. Rabastan has always encouraged her to be true to herself, even at times when doing so would prove frustrating for him or Narcissa, as he recognized that Meda would never be truly happy unless she did; besides, he has never seemed to have an irreparable problem with whatever she manages to do.
Narcissa Black Malfoy Lestrange - mother, Slytherin alumni, pureblood, socialite and philanthropist
As her mother's name could indicate just on being spelled out, Narcissa might have always wanted and possibly expected that one day Meda would turn into a proper pureblood lady, or at least something close to it. However, even if she has, Meda has never heard one blessed word about it beyond the fondly exasperated requests to 'behave'. She knows her mother loves her fiercely and Meda loves her just as fiercely right back. It could be said even in her differences from her mother where she is much more like her father, she still manages to be like her mother in emotion or execution. Her passion is without a doubt a mirror of her mother's even if it comes out so much differently at times and it had made for more than one memorable fight in the Lestrange household. Meda won't deny that sometimes she considers wanting to be more poised and in command like her mother, but life always reminds her that would be an impossible task.
Siblings: Alexander Lestrange - brother (b.2003), Slytherin student, pureblood
Her cohort in crime and tempering force to her extremes, “Xander” could not be closer to her if he were her twin instead of two years older, nor could he be more different. The Slytherin to her Gryffindor in many ways except one, their closeness. House lines have never even put a dent in their relationship and Meda would never consider participating in anything that would be insulting or hurtful, no matter how much others in their houses enjoy besting each other. The time between him going to Hogwarts and her first train ride was probably one of the alternately saddest and happiest times of her life, as she had her parents entirely to herself but she missed Xander desperately and wrote to him more than was probably ever necessary.
Draco Malfoy - half-brother, Slytherin alumni, pureblood
She adores Draco in a way that is almost comical, even if perhaps the feeling was not always returned. Following him around wherever possible was her absolute favorite activity as a child when he visited them and she has sent him more owls 'just because' than he likely ever imagine receiving. Now that she is older, Meda can imagine what it was like to have to share their mother after having grown to adulthood with her all to himself and she tries, when she is able, to make certain he understands she'll always do whatever she can to never encroach on his place in their mother's heart.
Aunts/Uncles/Cousins: Rodolphus Lestrange - uncle, Slytherin alumni, Death Eater, fugitive; Bellatrix Black Lestrange - aunt, Slytherin alumni, Death Eater, fugitive; Andromeda Black Tonks - aunt, Slytherin alumni, disowned; Ted Tonks - uncle, disowned; Nymphadora Tonks - cousin, disowned; Sirius Black - Gryffindor alumni, cousin, disowned; Regulus Black - cousin, Slytherin alumni, Death Eater until his death (1979)

Astrological
SIGN: Gryffindor Leo
Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and rules the back, the spine, and the heart. Positive traits include creativity, charisma, generosity, warmth, enthusiasm, a natural talent for leadership, and a great deal of inner power; negative traits are haughtiness, snobbery, an expectation that one is the centre of attention and should be waited on by everyone else, profligacy, lack of realism, dominance that can lead to bullying, and a refusal to change one's mind even in the face of solid facts.

This is a natural sign for Gryffindors, not least because the griffin is part lion. Gryffindors born under this sign are outgoing, friendly, affectionate, and likeable. They make friends easily and are crushed when their advances are rejected. Their romantic, chivalrous nature makes them perfect examples of all that is best in their House. However, they are also bossy, domineering, spendthrift, and overly dramatic (ever heard the phrase "drama queen?") They have sharp tempers and need to learn to direct their anger toward only needful causes. The natural creativity and flamboyance of Leo makes Gryffindors born under this sign good at most everything they attempt, provided they apply themselves to learning magic rather than using magic to hog the limelight.
